Marc records and Shelf Ready process
Core level MARC cataloging
Librería García Cambeiro offers core level MARC records for each book purchased through our approval plans. The records are created by a team of professional, experienced, bilingual catalogers, who have been trained by the Library of Congress since 2008. All of our records have authority control and are compliant with AACR2 standards. We can also provide minimal level MARC records, instead of core level.
In November 2009, we completed our strictly supervised trial period with the Library of Congress and now provide LC with core-level records for their approval plan purchases.
Core level MARC records (level 4)
Compliant with core level standards.
Authority control and AACR2 compliance (our cataloging language is English).
LC subject headings (6xx) and LC class number (050).
Formatted contents note (505) when necessary (e.g., for books with elaborate tables of contents, or for anthologies of stories or plays).
856 field with link to scanned images (PDFs) of pages that might be helpful to researchers, such as front and back cover, prologue, table of contents, index, etc. The PDFs are stored in our on-site server.
Adaptability to your library’s specific standards and needs.
Minimal level MARC records (level 7)
Compliant with minimal level standards.
Authority control and AACR2 compliance (our cataloging language is English).
Each record is proofread and edited for authority control, AACR2 compliance, etc., by professional catalogers.
Shelf-Ready Processing
Librería García Cambeiro provides shelf-ready processing for all books purchased with core-level MARC records through our approval plans. This can include high-quality binding if desired. We are adaptable to your library´s needs and can provide any combination of the following services: binding, barcoding, stamping, book-plating, shelf-labeling, and other kinds of labeling. Please note that your library must provide us with the necessary materials (except for binding materials). Our shelf-ready processing service (any combination of the services mentioned above) can only be had along with our MARC core level cataloging service.
Data Transmission
Currently we send our MARC records by direct transfer to your FTP or SFTP server, or we give you our server´s code and allow you to obtain the records yourselves. We can also send the records via email.
